This maintenance manual provides repair and service instructions for the SISU MP-330 Drive Gear, used in heavy through-drive axles such as the FRMP-13/16 and FSMP-14 series. The manual covers disassembly, assembly, and critical technical adjustments for differential carriers and inter-axle components.

Carrier and Differential Service

• Removal: To remove the carrier from the axle housing, technicians should use extractor screws in protected threaded holes and suitable lifting gear .
• Inter-Axle Differential: Disassembly requires rotating the propeller shaft flange to align specific markings with the plug opening to allow the case to pass the spur gear .
• Assembly Torque: Critical components require specific torque values, such as 1300 Nm (960 lb-ft) for the pinion nut and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) for differential side bearing cap screws.
• Axle Differential: During assembly, new nuts should be used for the differential case halves and ring gear, tightened to 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) with Loctite .

Critical Adjustments

• Gear Backlash: New ring and pinion assemblies must be set within 0.15–0.40 mm (0.006–0.016 in)
• Inter-Axle Backlash: Differential gear backlash should be 0.2–0.3 mm (0.008–0.012 in), which corresponds to an axial clearance of 0.8–1.2 mm (0.031–0.047 in)
• Differential Locks: Operational clearance for cross locks is approximately 0.4 mm (0.015 in). For inter-axle locks, this clearance is added to the measured axial play
• Pinion Rotating Torque: Standard pinion bearings (Ø68mm) should have a rotating torque of 5.3–8.0 Nm (4.0–6.0 lb-ft)

Lubrication and Maintenance

• Oil Quality: Use API GL-5 quality oil. For extreme conditions, full synthetic SAE 75W-90 (cold) or SAE 140 (hot) is recommended.
• Oil Volumes: Standard filling volume is 26 liters (55 pints) at a 4-degree installing angle.
• Sealing Change: Axles produced after August 2004 transitioned from single-lip shaft seals to cassette-type seals with multiple lips. These new seals are not interchangeable with old ones and must not be installed dry.
