This document, AxleTech™ International Maintenance Manual No. 9E, covers maintenance and service procedures for AxleTech covered planetary spider design wheel end assemblies. It was issued in July 1999.

Covered Axle Models:
The manual lists several models, including Rigid Axles, Tandem and Tridem Axles, and Steering Axles:

Planetary Axle Description:
AxleTech’s covered spider design planetary axles feature a final gearing reduction in the wheel hubs by planetary design spur gears. This design allows the carrier hypoid gearing and axle shafts to carry only nominal torsional loads while providing high numerical gear reduction at the wheels. Power is transmitted to the sun gear, through the revolving planetary gears, and into the planetary spider, which drives the wheel hub. Planetary wheel ends have three different designs: planetary pinion shafts with tapered roller bearings, needle roller bearings, or nylon coating.
